This is a surgery done for Otosclerosis. Otosclerosis is a condition which affects mainly the stapes and causes it to be fixed, thus causing a reduced hearing. The condition can run in families and corrected by stapedotomy. In this surgery, the fixed stapes is replaced by a Teflon piston. This is done under local anesthesia and the patient goes home the same day.
