Subtotal petrosectomy or Blind sac closure is a surgery done for discharging ears with profound hearing loss, or for cancer of the middle ear. In this surgery, all structures and the mucosal lining of the middle ear is removed and the ear canal is sewed shut as a “blind sac”. This gives an immediate dry ear and prepares the ear for a possible cochlear implant later.
